Hrafntinna/Obsidian Revisited – A New Symphonic Evolution in progress
We are pleased to announce the birth of a new project, Obsidian Shadows, an orchestral suite for symphony orchestra and choir. The project is based on the transdisciplinary artwork Hrafntinna/Sort Glimmer, which premiered at the Reykjavík Arts Festival and the Icelandic Opera in 2022.
Composed and orchestrated by Hilmar Þórðarson in collaboration with conductor and composer Halldis Rønning, Obsidian Shadows builds upon the musical structures and sound concepts developed with musicians from the IMNO ensemble (Norway), Caput ensemble (Iceland), Tabula Rasa (Norway), and the Icelandic Opera. This symphonic adaptation transforms the electronic elements of the original work into rich orchestral textures, expanding its sonic and expressive possibilities.
The new version will have its world premiere on August 13, 2025, in the Fartein Valen Hall at Stavanger Concert Hall as part of the concert "Meditations on Listening." This performance is part of Halldis Rønning’s artistic research project at the University of Stavanger.

🇳🇴 Havet - En reise inn i det mystiske dypet har som formål å skape en unik og fordypende opplevelse som forplikter seg til å vekke publikums bevissthet om viktigheten av å behandle naturen med respekt og omsorg. Dette er det første prosjektet til Lava Nova AS som skal realiseres, og vil inkludere original musikk, film, informative tekster, belysning og andre betydningsfulle elementer som en del av presentasjonen. Arrangementet er planlagt å finne sted ved planetariet i Trondheim, under ledelse av dets manager Lars Pedersen.
Prosjektet vil innebære samarbeidet mellom et bredt spekter av eksperter innenfor sine respektive felt, inkludert medlemmer av SiTron Ensemble, komponisten Hilmar Thórdarson, film- og TV-kunstnerne Julian Norum og Joachim Voldseth fra Nord Universitet, samt lyskunstneren Pekka Stokke.
🇮🇸 Sjórinn - Ferð inn í hið dulafulla dýpi hefur sem megin markmið að skapa einstaka og djúpa upplifun sem vekur meðvitund áhrofenda um mikilvægi þess að umgangast náttúruna með virðingu og umhyggju. Þetta er fyrsta verkefnið sem Lava Nova AS setur í framkvæmd, og mun innihalda frumsamda tónlist, kvikmynd, fræðandi texta, ljós og önnur þýðingarmiklar atriði sem eru hluti af sýningunni. Sýningar munu fara fram í Trondheim Planetarium undir stjórn framkvæmdastjóra þess, Lars Pedersen.
Verkefnið krefst víðtæks samstarfs listamanna með sérþekkingu innan sínna sviða, þar á meðal hljóðfæraleikara frá SiTron Ensemble, tónskáldsins Hilmar Thórdarsonar, kvikmynda- og hreyfilistamannana Julian Norum og Joachim Voldseth frá Nord Universitiet, ásamt ljóslistamanninum Pekka Stokke.
🇺🇸 The Sea - A Journey into the Mysterious Depths promises to be a unique and immersive experience created to awaken the audience's awareness of the importance of treating nature with respect and care. This is the first project of Lava Nova AS to go forward and will include original music, film, informative texts, lighting, and other significant elements as part of its presentation. This event is slated to take place at the planetarium in Trondheim, under the auspices of its manager Lars Pedersen.
The project will feature the coming together of a wide variety of experts within their respective fields, including members of the SiTron Ensemble, composer Hilmar Thórdarson, film and TV artists Julian Norum and Joachim Voldseth of Nord Universitet, and lighting artist Pekka Stokke.
